How to download Snapchat on a computer

Unless you have been living in a cave for the past few years, you have heard of the mega popular photo messaging app Snapchat. This great app allows users to send photos and videos to set groups of contacts and users. A time limit can be set by the sender to limit how long their group has before the file is gone forever. An extremely fun app on your smart phone, but even more fun when you use Snapchat on PC and Mac.

Instead of dealing with the tiny screens of smart phones or mobile devices, you can enjoy the larger viewing area of your computer screen using the free Blues tacks Android Emulator. Instead of using your fingers to navigate and control picture viewing, you simply use your mouse, allowing for better views of images sent to you. By using your computer’s camera, you can capture better quality images and videos to send out to your best friends.

How to Create a Gmail Account

Not so long ago Gmail registration could only be done through invitations from users who already had a verified Google web account. This rule has since changed, allowing anybody to sign up to Gmail with limited restrictions.

Gmail accounts can be created through a user’s Google account if one already exists or by completing Gmail’s simple registration process.

It’s easy to create a new free Gmail email account, whether you want a new email address a different username or more storage for your messages. A Gmail account offers these and a robust spam filter. You can use it to access your existing email accounts and profit from Gmail eliminating the junk. You can also use it to archive old mail or as a backup.

To set up a new Gmail email account:

  1. Visit Create your Google Account for Gmail.
  2. Enter your first and last name in the Name
  3. Type your desired username under Choose your username.
Your Gmail email address will be your username followed by “@com.” If your Gmail username is “example,” for instance, your Gmail address is “example@gmail.com.”
  4. If Gmail lets you know that your desired username is not available, enter a different desired name under Choose your username or click one of the proposals under
  5. Enter a password for your Gmail account under both Create a password and confirm your password. Pick an email password that is difficult to guess.
For enhanced security, you should later enable two-factor authentication for your Gmail account.
  6. Enter your birth date and gender in the fields provided.
  7. Optionally, enter your mobile phone number and an alternate email addressfor account verification and authorization. Google uses this information to protect your privacy and to allow you to recover a lost password.
  8. Type the characters in the captcha picture to prove you’re not a robot.
  9. Select your country or location.
  10. Click Next Step.
  11. Examine Google’s terms of service and the Gmail privacy policy and click I Agree.
  12. Type the characters in the captcha picture to prove you’re not a robot.
  13. Click Continue to Gmail.

Access the Gmail Account and Your Other Existing Email

You can access Gmail on the web, and you can also set it up in desktop and mobile email programs.

Gmail vs. Google vs. Google Plus

In creating a Gmail account, you automatically create a Google account, which allows you to access other personalized services such as YouTube, Android, and Google Plus, Google’s social network.

How To Access Your Gmail Inbox

As soon as you have registered in Gmail, you will be directed to your inbox. There, you will see that you have already received your first email: a welcome email from the Gmail team.

At the top of your inbox, you’ll see that three tabs have been created for you to help you in your email management: Home, Social Networks and Promotions. These filters are not mandatory — Gmail offers its users many options for inbox customization, including creating customized filters and labels as well as a personal signature. These options may be found in your account settings.

How to send an email to multiple people

Sending a message to more than one person via email is a quick method of getting your information across. You only have to type the main text once, so that the minutes of your meeting or your prize-winning photo can go to everyone at the press of a button.

This guide explains how to send an email to more than one recipient using a Gmail account. However, this information is relevant to the majority of email accounts.

You’ll need:

  • a computer that is connected to the internet
  • an email account set up and ready to send and receive emails.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to send an email to multiple people

Step 1: Log in to your email account so that you are on the dashboard (main page) of your mail account.

Step 2: Click COMPOSE.

Step 3: A new email window will open. In the ‘To’ address box, type in the first recipient’s email address. Then type a comma and make a space, to separate this address from the next email address. Type in the second address and continue, inserting a comma and a space between each subsequent address.

You may find that other email applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, use a semi-colon (;) instead of a comma to separate each email address.

Step 4: You might want to include someone else in your email just to ‘keep them in the loop’. You can do this by clicking Cc or Bcc, which will open another field. ‘Cc’ means ‘carbon copy’ and ‘Bcc’ means ‘blind carbon copy’. Adding an email address to the ‘Cc’ field means that that person will receive a copy of the email and all other recipients will see their email address. If an email address is put into the ‘Bcc’ field, the person will get a copy of the email but no other recipient will see that address.

If you are sending the same email to lots of different people, it’s a good idea to put all the email addresses in the ‘Bcc’ field to keep your ‘mailing list’ confidential. That way, there’s no chance that it could fall into the hands of a spammer or hacker.

Step 5: Now type in the subject of your email and the text of your message.

Step 6: Click the blue Send button when you’re ready.

Step 7: If you want to reply to an email but add more recipients to the ‘To’ box, follow Steps 3 to 6 above once you have clicked on Reply and the email has been opened.

How to register Facebook and use it to the fullest

This guide will teach you how to sign up to Facebook. By the end of the the guide you will know how to join Facebook, add friends or ‘people you may know’ and also how to add a cover photo or profile picture to your account.

Like most social networking sites, Facebook asks its users to create a user profile to join the worldwide network. This is entirely free and can contain as little or as much information as you want. Once you have created your profile you can also adjust the privacy settings to specify what details you want to be made public.

How to join Facebook

1. Go to the Facebook website. Under Sign Up type your information into the boxes.

The birthday boxes have the information in drop down boxes and, when you click on the arrows, they will display a list for you to select the correct dates. You should also click on the round button next to either male or female. When you have completed these boxes click on the green button to Sign Up.

2. Facebook will send an email to the email address you provided. This is to ensure that you have given a real email address and one that you genuinely have access to. Click on the button Confirm Your Account. A numeric confirmation code is also provided and you may be asked to type this in.

3. Facebook will now open your profile and ask you a series of questions to help you get started. Step 1 is to help you find friends who are already using Facebook.

Facebook will suggest people it thinks you may know and give you a list with profile photos so you can recognise them. If you would like to connect with someone on this list click on the Add Friend button. This will send a Friend Request to them – it is their choice whether or not to accept your request.

Click on the Next button if you do not recognise or wish to connect with anyone in this list.

4. On the Welcome page Facebook gives you the opportunity to connect with people in your email address book/contacts. It does this by taking the email address that you used to create your profile. If you want to see who it suggests click on Find Friends and it will access your email contacts to match them up with Facebook users.

5. Next the Welcome page suggests that you get to know your privacy settings. See our guide Privacy settings: How to stay safe on Facebook

6. Add a Profile Picture. You can use either a photograph that is on your computer or can be accessed from your computer (for instance on a USB) or, if you have a webcam that takes still photos, then you could take a new photo of you.

Many people choose to put a picture of something other than themselves for their profile, for instance a cartoon or favourite pet. If you choose not to put a photo at this time your profile will appear with the head and shoulders outline that you see below. For further information on uploading photos see our guide How to upload photos to Facebook.

  1. Facebook is all about connecting with people so step 4 allows you to search for people you might know by typing in their names.

Don’t worry if you can’t think of many people at this stage you can always look for people at a later date, indeed you can continue to add to your friends list for as long as you have a Facebook account!

Your new Facebook Profile

Once you have done all of this your new Facebook page will open.

The first thing you will see is an option to change what is known as your cover photo. This is a large image that appears at the top of your personal page and is different to your profile photo. It can be of a scene that you like, a party, a cartoon, a flag or anything else that you feel is important to you…or even just looks nice.

To add your own photo click on OK

Registering a Business Page on Facebook

In order to create a business Facebook page for your business you will need a Facebook profile. You can easily create a page if you already have a personal account and become the Manager/Owner of the page or simply register on Facebook if you do not possess a personal account.

Next, type Facebook fan page on Google and access the first link. Choose the category of your business, name it and press the “Get started” button.

The Steps

  1. About section. Simply add your website, a description and a unique Facebook web address (URL) and check “yes” or “no” if this page is a real business, product or brand. Click “Save info” and go to step 2.
  2. Profile picture. You can upload the picture from your computer or import it from a website. Then click “Next” and go to the next step. Make sure the picture is of high quality and displays nice visuals. You can also add a cover image to your Facebook Page – it’s highly recommended to be of good quality and have an attractive design.
  3. Add to favorites. Hit the green bottom and “Next”.
  4. Reach more people. Here you can create an ad or you can skip this step and create the ad later (after your business page will be properly customized).

Extra: You can use the Bing maps to define your Facebook Business Page address (physical) and display it on a map. You can also add contact info such as phone, email, schedule, hours open for business.

Press the “Skip” button and you are good to go. Remember, only authentic information, pictures, content, posts etc. will make your business successful. Return for more Local social tips.
